I’m Melinda and I’ve been a designer for over 15 years.
My current focus is on user interface design and the user experience behind it. I also spend time designing in the worlds of branding, logo design, print and illustration. I have worked with startups, non-profits, businesses large and small to create projects from inception to completion. I am equally comfortable jumping in at any phase of creative concepting, information architecture, wireframing and prototyping.
I’m also a wildlife biologist in my spare time. I see my science side as my own personal version of the astronaut overview effect – that cognitive shift in awareness that happens when an astronaut sees the earth from above and is thrust into a radically altered perception imbued with awe and empathy. Comparative biology is my way of flexing this perspective shifting muscle. This experience inspires my approach to Design Thinking, where I create solutions from an empathetic understanding of the users’ needs. With a particular enthusiasm for doing my part to reduce cognitive load in the interest of creating more space for moments of visual beauty and awe.
